Welcome to the Fort Report
Hello, I’m Belen Ward. Welcome to my very first Fort Report. I’ve been covering Fort Lupton for nine years, and I will be emailing a weekly newsletter every Thursday to keep you informed about current news in your communities.
Fort Lupton is a growing community influenced both by Denver, to the south and Weld County. It’s a dynamic and changing community and I’m going to do my best to keep track of all of it.
I could use your help! If you see something you think I should write about, let me know! You can email me at [email protected].
I’m looking forward to continuing this conversation!
There are a couple of opportunities for individuals to participate in civic life.
Let’s get started!

💐 Guiding Weld County’s fairgrounds
Weld County Seeking Volunteers for Island Grove Board

Weld County is seeking volunteers to help oversee, promote and maintain the county’s Island Grove Regional Park facilities. That’s the space that hosts the Weld County Fair – which is coming up again in August.
This is one of those entry-level government positions that can really make big difference in the community and give volunteers a chance to see if they are interested in getting involved in government at the starter level.
One thing that is interesting is that the county is specifically looking for volunteers who live outside of Greeley.
💰 Weld County User Tax Money for Road Maintenance
The Weld County Board of Commissioner will submit a report to the Colorado Department of Transportation, which will use it to determine how much Highway Users Tax Fund money the county will receive in 2026 to maintain its roads, according to officials.
What’s interesting here is that as Weld County has grown – by development and annexations – the county’s total road mileage is slightly smaller.
Also, Weld County more than 2,000 miles of gravel roads. That’s the most in the state!
Around Town
🇺🇸 Planning for Great Plains Field of Honor
Every year, volunteers fill Fort Lupton’s Pearson Park with flags, more American flags then you’ve seen in one place.
Residents get to sponsor a flag in honor of their family and friends: veterans, serving soldiers and first responders. The event usually brings in military displays and miltary aircraft flyovers.
It’s a moving experience.
The event is scheduled for April 23-25 this year and volunteers are being sought right now.
